Our Community: Arts

Starkville is the cultural epicenter of the Golden Triangle with its numerous concerts, festivals, galleries, museums, pageants, parades, recitals and theatrical performances.

Starkville hosts a medley of concerts and performances by both local and visiting artists, including the Starkville-MSU Symphony, the Starkville-MSU Chorus, and the school bands. If your interest is in drama, the Starkville Community Theater is always looking for fresh talent and a receptive audience. And, for those interested in the visual arts, the Starkville Area Arts Council, local businesses and MSU campus galleries host both professional and student artists throughout the year.

The Cotton District Arts Festival and Taste of Starkville is the area’s largest annual celebration of art and culture and is held the third weekend of April. The festival features over 100 artisan booths, juried art exhibit, children’s art show, theatrical performances, the Y’all Magazine Sweet Tea Challenge, culinary contests, Chaucer’s Literary Village, themed artisans villages, parades a 5K run, etc. In 2008, the festival saw its largest turnout thus far with over 20,000 in attendance.

Starkville is also home to the Charles Templeton Ragtime Music Festival and the Magnolia Independent Film Festival, the state’s oldest festival of its kind.
