ROBERT “BUBBA” LEE GRAY, JR.

How long have you lived in Starkville/Oktibbeha County?
I am a life long resident of Oktibbeha County.  My family has lived and worked in Oktibbeha County for five generations.

What qualifications and experience do you feel you possess that would benefit the office you are seeking?
For six (6) years I held the position of Leadman, supervising sixty five (65) people at an international company (Beloit Manhatten). Also, at a locally owned company I was Shop Supervisor for two (2) years, working with customers from across the United States ensuring their equipment was built to their exact specifications. I also carry on the tradition of owning and operating Gray Cattle Farms here in Oktibbeha County.

With my leadership experience, organizational skills, ability to look at and prioritize any given situation or project along with my energy, drive and enthusiasm; I carry the ability and skills to help in moving Oktibbeha County to the next level.

What do you see as the most important aspects or considerations of the office you are seeking?
With leadership working together, Oktibbeha County will improve in all areas. We must develop a detailed, comprehensive plan of attainable goals. Using prioritization and logical decision making we will make this a county that both new businesses as well as people are excited about becoming a part of. In the process, bettering our county for future generations.

What growth or improvements do you hope to see in Starkville/Oktibbeha County area in the next 5 years?
With the existence of Mississippi State University, all of the research and technology available here, along with excellent hospital and medical facilities Oktibbeha County has the ability for unlimited growth. Our abundance of resources has yet to be tapped.

Where can constituents find more information about you and your campaign?
I have set up a Facebook page along with a web page with my personal information. Of course, I am always available to all of my constituents for any and all questions they might have for me.

How long have you lived in Starkville/Oktibbeha county?
I have lived in Starkville, MS a majority of my life.

What qualifications and experience do you feel you possess that you feel you that would benefit the office you are seeking?
I have eight years of previous experience as a supervisor of Oktibbeha County district 2.

What do you see as the most important aspect or considerations of the office you are seeking?
The most important aspect of the office that I am seeking are making sure that I am the voice for the people in Okitbbeha county. County government is important in our schools, hospitals and job market. Also, it is very important to continue to keep our taxes in the county as low as possible. I would like to keep the people of the county and city informed of any upcoming changes for the improvement of our county as a whole.

In your view, what are the strengths and weaknesses of the Oktibbeha County/ Starkville community?
The strengths of Oktibbeha county is that we have one of the most recognized universities in the state of Mississippi, which is Mississippi State University. Due to us having such a great university in Oktibbeha, this has created a major impact on our economy such as creation of more jobs, businesses and recreational facilities. The areas of improvement for Oktibbeha county would be to make continued improvements on our educational system.

What growth or improvements do you hope to see in Starkville/Oktibbeha county area in the next 5 years?
I would like to see major improvements on our road system, bridges and jobs.

How long have you lived in Starkville/Oktibbeha County?
I was born in Oktibbeha County on April, 12 1974 and have lived here my entire life except for 4 years of College at the University of MS

What qualifications and experience do you feel you possess that would benefit the office you are seeking?
I have served as Oktibbeha County Supervisor District 2 for almost 16 years. I have committed myself to the citizens of Oktibbeha County because they have invested in my development a tremendously. I have been afforded the privilege of receiving training and exposure. These experiences have positioned us so that we can make knowledgeable and intelligent recommendations on how to improve the county as a whole. Also a deep and intimate understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the office of county supervisor that has come about thru building relationships with others across this country.

What do you see as the most important aspects or considerations of the office you are seeking?
Patience, accessibility, compassion, concern, respectfulness and a constant desire for training and information for decision making

In your view, what are the strengths and weaknesses of the Oktibbeha County/Starkville community?
Strengths – Growth potential, Consolidated educational system, progressive minded responses to challenges

Weaknesses- Nothing that cannot be overcome by people working together and considering the Golden Rule Principle  “Do unto others as you would have them to do unto You”

What growth or improvements do you hope to see in Starkville/Oktibbeha County area in the next 5 years?
I am committed to encouraging the board to consider new and innovative approaches to challenges opportunities and threats. I would like to see the county develop a comprehensive road program based upon data, statistics and reasonable criteria. This plan should involve citizen input and focus on eliminating gravel roads, correcting drainage issues and maintaining pave roads to maximize its life expectancy.

Steady and consistent implementation of the county’s comprehensive plan. This process should focus on the aspects that are beneficial and critical to the growth and success of the entire county. Our county is growing faster than we can keep up with it.  We must be proactive and forward thinkers to positon ourselves to handle the growth.

Strategic options assessment for healthcare and county hospital system so that all stakeholders can understand the potential, opportunities and or threats that Oktibbeha could be facing in the future.

Focus efforts on community and economic development.

As part of our monthly Blue Ribbon Business Resources series, the Greater Starkville Development Partnership will provide our membership with an opportunity to meet and hear from local candidates during the next Power Breakfast scheduled for July 8 at 7:30 a.m. at Hilton Garden Inn in Starkville. Register your attendance for the Candidate Meet & Greet, where candidates who accepted our invitation will offer a 5-minute statement, and Partnership members and constituents will have the opportunity for informal conversations with candidates before and after the program. Doors open at 7:00am on Wednesday, July 8. Power Breakfast is free for GSDP member representatives, and non-members are welcome for a fee of $25 per person.
