2006 AWARD WINNERS
DR. FENTON PETERS
Chance McDavid (right) presented the 2006 T.E. Veitch Community Service Award to Dr. Fenton Peters. He has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in education, serving as teacher, assistant principal, principal, and superintendent at various schools and districts in Starkville, Holly Springs, and Jackson. He also served as an adjunct lecturer at MSUís Meridian campus. Dr. Peters is currently an adjunct staff member at MSU where he supervises student teachers. He presently serves on the Oktibbeha County Hospital Board and the Institute of Community Services Board. He is an active member of First Church of Christ (Holiness), USA. Past service includes United Way, Meals-on-Wheels, and Starkville/Oktibbeha County Achieving Results (SOAR), and Starkville Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He has received numerous awards and honors, including induction into the 1995 Northeast MS Baptist Convention Hall of Fame, 1996 Starkville Area Chamber of Commerce Education Hall of Fame, Starkville Teachers Association Outstanding Service in Education Award, and the Mayor of Starkvilleís Certificate of Appreciation in 1976. He and his wife, Maggie, have two sons, Pellum and Alton, and one daughter Avis Wilcox.
