Are you ready to SHOW YOUR TAILS? Plans for the 2nd Annual King Cotton Crawfish Boil are underway, and we are excited to share a new component to the spring crawfish celebration! The Boil has been scheduled for Friday, May 15, 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Page Avenue in the Cotton District. The event will feature the inaugural King Cotton Best of Boil Team Competition. This on-site culinary showdown will see local crawfish cooking teams present their best recipes for taste-testing as a panel of celebrity judges determines the best heads and tails for 2015. The public is invited to participate in individual or business teams of two or more “boil buddies,” and showcase your favorite crawfish concoctions.
King Cotton Crawfish Boil began in 2014 as a fundraising event for Starkville Main Street, and has grown this year to include the culinary competition. With a year’s worth of bragging rights on the line, we hope that office mates, supper clubs, tailgaters, as well as plain old crawfish lovers will team up to create some original mudbug fare. Team registration is free and includes two event tickets. Each team is required to cook ten pounds of crawfish on-site during the event, some of which will be provided to judges for taste-testing. Teams are welcomed to include any add-ins to their crawfish they think will “wow” the judges, and we hope our culinary contestants will be willing to share the extras with event-goers! Our judges panel will award Best Crawfish for their favorite taste, and Best of Boil to the team with the best overall tent presentation created through signage, decorations, food display and atmosphere. In addition, the year’s Crowd Favorite award will be given to the team whose crawfish goodness gains the most public support, demonstrated as teams collect “favorite” badges from event ticket-holders.
The Crawfish Boil culminates spring’s Savor Our South series with an evening of good food and family-style dining on Page Avenue, courtesy of our presenting sponsors, Clark Beverage Company and Southern Traditions Tailgating. Ticket-holders will enjoy a 5-lb bucket of crawfish, corn and potatoes provided locally, unlimited beer and beverages, and of course, any of the team crawfish you can wrangle from local chefs. Southern Traditions will be showing the Mississippi State / Tennessee baseball game from Knoxville at their tailgating “combat” vehicle, and Cedar Creek Ramblers will provide live music.
Advance tickets are available on-line in two options:
$20.00 CRAWFISH SINGLE: Includes ONE 5 lb bucket of crawfish, corn and potatoes and ONE unlimited beer/beverages ticket
