GOLFING & TENNIS
Golfers will find some of the finest greens in
the South in the Starkville area. The Mississippi State University
Golf Course, home to one of the few Pro Golf Management programs in
the country, is open to the public. Private courses include Old Waverly,
acclaimed nationally for its greens, and Starkville Country Club.
In addition, a new public course, Elm Lake, is open making the Starkville
area a golfer's paradise. Click
here to find out more about these golf courses, including green
fees.
Tennis courts are located on the MSU campus, at Starkville Country
Club, and in the city parks system. Several tennis teams are open
to new members within the community and through the country club.
THE GREAT OUTDOORS
If you enjoy the great outdoors, you will find
that Starkville surrounds you with nature. Hunting, fishing, bird
watching, hiking, boating, and water-skiing are all available within
a very short distance. Spanning 47,000 acres, the Noxubee Wildlife
Refuge is a man-developed waterfowl refuge with two lakes, nature
trails, and a bird sanctuary. Fishing is permitted in all refuge waters,
and hunting is allowed in selected areas. Public lands and private
hunting clubs also provide an abundance of hunting opportunities.
Oktibbeha County Lake and the Tombigbee River are nearby for swimming,
boating, skiing, and fishing. |
