Souper Bowl Honors and an Award-Winning Recipe

SOUPer Bowl 2016 is in the books, and we were delighted to host a great crowd at the Dawg House Sports Grill for delicious soups! As one of our favorite winter-time events, SOUPer Bowl offers a great opportunity to see some of our local chefs at work, and this year’s soup creativity did not disappoint. With an eclectic display of offerings including ingredients like cantaloupe, shrimp, “drunken” chicken, sweet potatoes and more, the chefs proved once again that the culinary temptations available in Starkville’s local food spots are second to none. We were proud to award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes, as well as Best in Show for overall soup delights AND presentation based on our eater ballots. SOUPer Bowl is one of a growing collection of culinary events presented by the Starkville Convention and Visitors Bureau aimed at highlighting the unique food culture in Starkville.

“We were thrilled with the turnout for the 7th Annual SOUPer Bowl,” said Jennifer Prather, Special Events Coordinator for the Greater Starkville Development Partnership. “All of our participating restaurants went the extra mile to create unique and creative soups for the event, and the attendees enjoyed the opportunity to network with the chefs from our local restaurants. The culinary scene in Starkville is growing and thriving, and the Partnership is proud to be able to promote that through this event.”

The first place prize and Best in Show was awarded to BIN 612 and Chef Paul Brasfield for their delicious Drunken Chicken, Sausage, Shrimp and Corn Chowder finished with Mexican Bruschetta! Located in the heart of the Cotton District, the “Bin” boasts a cafe-like atmosphere and ample outdoor dining with an eclectic blend of pizzas, panini, burgers and more made with fresh local ingredients. The award-winning soup is just one example of how a love to locally sourced ingredients leads to innovated combinations in the kitchen at Bin. It’s hard to beat the culinary prowess of Chef Paul and his team, but he was kind enough to share the recipe for the winning soup so that you can try it at home — DOWNLOAD THE RECIPE HERE!

This drunken chicken concoction wasn’t the only delectable offering this year! The 2nd Place award went to Old Venice Pizza Company for it’s Crawfish Chowder. Commodore Bob’s Yacht Club took the 3rd Place prize with it’s Shrimp and Cantaloupe Bisque!
