Starkville: The Crossroads of Your Mississippi Experience

ITINERARY:
Arrival Day
5:00 p.m. Arrive in Starkville – Check into your hotel
6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Enjoy a dinner welcome reception at a local Starkville restaurant.
Touring Day
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel
9:00-9:45 a.m. Pick up your step-on guide at the Greater Starkville Development Partnership where you can view artwork from local artists and Coca-Cola memorabilia provided from the local Starkville Coca-Cola plant.
10:00-10:45 a.m. Learn how Aspen Bay Candles are made at the only factory located in Starkville. All candles are hand-poured and fragranced then shipped all over the world and sold in high-end stores such as Anthropology.
11:00 p.m. Enjoy browsing at the brand new location of the Aspen Bay Candles store located at Cotton Crossing.
Noon. Enjoy a lunch at a local restaurant.
1:15 p.m. View the original manuscripts of famous author John Grisham. Grisham was a 1977 graduate of Mississippi State University. The John Grisham Room is located in the Mitchell Memorial Library on campus.
1:45 p.m. Enjoy the music of the Ragtime era at the Charles H. Templeton Music Museum also located in the Mitchell Memorial Library. This private collection was donated to MSU and consists of player pianos, music boxes and other instruments of the 1930’s and 1940’s as well as 22,000 sheets of music.
3:00 p.m. Enjoy walking through the Drill Field of campus where you can view the Sonny Montgomery statue, the twin buildings, and walk on over to the MSU Welcome Center, Clock Museum and Barnes and Noble Shop.
4:15 p.m. Enjoy a stroll through the historic Cotton District. The Cotton District used to house the workers of the nearby Cotton Mill workers where they made Starkville Chambray. Now it is the epitome of the architectural world with construction similar to Charleston, New Orleans, Savannah and the new urbanism concept.
5:00 p.m. Return to the hotel.
7:00 p.m. Dinner at a local Starkville restaurant.
NOTES:
- This trip can be made into a one-day tour or can be repeated if used as a hub and spoke tour.
- The Herzer Dairy Cheese Factory only takes tours on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9:30 – 11 a.m. (45 min. tour). We can schedule these tours for you as well and move breakfasts earlier in the day.
