Oktoc Country Store

Oktoc Country Store will be held on Saturday, October 13, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and ending at 2:00 p.m. at the Oktoc Community Clubhouse on the corner of Oktoc and Robinson Roads. Proceeds from the event help with the upkeep of the Community Clubhouse as well as special projects in the community.
Visitors to the Country Store will have the opportunity to purchase a wide variety of baked goods that garden club members have prepared. Cakes, pies, sweet and savory breads, cookies, and cheese straws are always a big hit each year. The club’s latest cookbook, Oktoc Treasures 2013, will be available for purchase as will some previous editions.
The Farmer’s Market area will feature garden produce, jams, and jellies, as well as pickled fruits and vegetables. Homemade snacks such as cookies, brownies, and pimiento cheese sandwiches will also be available for sale.
The annual quilt raffle always draws a large crowd. Tickets are available for $1 from any garden club member or at the event on October 13. The drawing will be at 1:00 p.m. The winner does not have to be present.
Another highlight of the Country Store is the Silent Auction. The bid sheets are taken up at 1:00 p.m. with winners being the highest bidder on each item.
The famous Brunswick stew is made on site by the men of the community in huge cast iron pots. It is sold by the bowl and in bulk. Many area residents bring their own containers to help them fill their freezers for the upcoming holiday season.
In addition there will be live musical entertainment by Robert Montgomery and Alan Sibley. Children can enjoy face painting, games and viewing the District V Fire Truck.
