Salons, Barber Shops, and Gyms Open May 11 – What Are the Guidelines?

Executive Order 1480 will take effect at 8:00 a.m. on Monday May 11th.  The Safer-at-Home order has been extended for two more weeks and additional businesses including barbershops, salons, and gymnasiums will be allowed to reopen.

Barber Shops and Salons FAQs

Q: Can I now go to my barber or hair salon?

A:  Yes, you will be able to go to your barber or hair stylist effective May 11th.

Q: Am I required to wear a mask or a face covering?

A: Customers are required to wear a face covering at all times unless they’re receiving a service that would be impeded by the covering.

Q: Is my Barber required to wear a mask or a face covering?

A:  Your barber is required to wear a face covering and gloves at all times.

Q: What precautions will my barber take to protect me and others?

A:  All salons and barbershops will be deep-cleaned and sanitized daily.  All shops will conform to the guidelines, including social distancing, from the CDC and the State Health Department.  Health screenings will be used and hand sanitizer will be available at all times.

Commercial Gymnasiums FAQs

Q: So, I can now go to my local gym and work out?

A:  Effective Monday May 11th, you can go to your local gym.

Q: Am I required to wear a mask or a face covering in my gym?

A:  While masks are recommended whenever possible, you are not required to wear such at the gym.  However, all employees of the gym are required to wear a face covering and gloves at all times.

Q: What precautions will my gym take to protect me and others?

A:  Before opening, your gym will be deep-cleaned, disinfected, and sanitized daily.  All high-touch areas are required to be sanitized at least every two hours.  Your gym must follow all CDC and State Health Department guidelines including social distancing and health screening.

Q: How will my gym operate under the new rules?

A:  No more than 30% capacity is allowed at any time.  There must be at least one employee onsite at all times dedicated to wiping down equipment after each use.  All gyms must close to the public no later than 10:00p daily.  All common areas must remain closed at this time.  All equipment must be at least six feet apart.

Q: Can we resume our workout class or group exercises?

A:  Yes, as long as all customers maintain a minimum of six feet apart.
