Two brothers who grew up in Louisville, Mississippi, Dr. Stephen Mitchell and Dr. Andrew Mitchell are both graduates of Mississippi State University, and completed their doctorates in Optometry at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee.
The Mitchell brothers have always considered Starkville “home” and for years had hoped to open a practice here together, so when the time arose in the summer of 2018, the brothers founded Mitchell Eye Care located in the center of Starkville at 450 Highway 12 W.
At Mitchell Eye Care, the doctor duo offers comprehensive eye exams for eye health as well as vision exams for glasses and/or contacts, treatment and management of ocular diseases or eye infections, diabetic eye screenings, pediatric eye exams, and emergency eye care.
Mitchell Eye Care also features a full optical offering of designer eyewear, budget-friendly eyeglasses, sunglasses and stock contact lenses.
When asked about their favorite thing about owning a business in Starkville, Dr. Stephen Mitchell said, “Starkville is such a unique community in how supportive and welcoming it is to new businesses. There are ample networking opportunities that make for fun connections and successful growth.”
Being involved is the easiest way to give back to the community. Mitchell Eye Care works with local non-profits and takes full advantage of offered volunteer opportunities. They also sponsor many local youth sports teams and school fundraisers.
“We love to participate in local events in many ways. We have financially sponsored events, performed free vision screenings at back-to-school festivals, given candy at Halloween events, and participated in any way possible in our short 3 years in town so far,” said Dr. Andrew Mitchell.
When asked about their involvement with the Greater Starkville Development Partnership, Jessica Mitchell said, “The GSDP has been an amazing resource for our business since day one.”
“The Partnership has offered so many marketing opportunities, many at no cost to us. They do a wonderful job organizing networking events and assisting in making valuable business connections,” said Jessica.
Jessica adds, “Starkville is such a friendly town, full of young families. There is always some type of fun event going on in town.”
Dr. Stephen Mitchell has been practicing Optometry for 10 years, and resides in Starkville with his wife, Jessica, and their two sons, Carter and Parker. Dr. Andrew Mitchell also lives in Starkville and has been practicing Optometry for 5 years.
