After working at the Jeweler’s Bench for almost 31 years, Jamie Parkerson was presented with the opportunity to open his own business in 2017.
J. Parkerson Jewelers offers many services to its customers. From engraving and repairs to appraisals and custom jewelry design, the local business does it all. You will always be treated with the utmost respect and care.
“I really try to treat customers like family,” said Parkerson. “I try to put myself on the other side of the counter.”
One of Parkerson’s favorite parts of being in the jewelry business is doing repairs on family jewelry.
“I love refurbishing the old jewelry because it’s a really meaningful, sentimental piece,” said Parkerson. “I want to bring it back to life so they can have years of enjoyment out of it too.”
Perhaps Parkerson’s most memorable repair was that of an old family ring with a distinctive past.
A young man came in one day with a ring that was practically destroyed. The ring’s owner passed on the beach at Normandy during World War II. Fellow soldiers shipped the item back to the owner’s wife. Decades later, the fallen soldier’s grandson made the decision to use the battered ring for his engagement.
Parkerson had his work cut out for him. The man’s request was to have general repairs done as well as white gold edging on both sides. Parkerson also saved precious engravings on the inside that might have been lost forever.
The ring had a storied past and now has a long future because of Parkerson’s efforts.
“Things like that really get to me,” said Parkerson. “It makes my job all worth it.”
